Tigercat was founded by Ken MacDonald in 1992 with a simple idea: build forestry equipment that's designed from the ground up for logging, not adapted from construction machines. That philosophy still drives the company today. Everything they make — from skidders to feller bunchers to loaders — is built specifically for forestry applications.
The company is based in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, and they're still privately held. That matters because it means they can take the long view on engineering decisions without quarterly earnings pressure.
In the southeastern US, Tigercat has a massive following. The 600 series wheeled feller bunchers and the S-series skidders are everywhere from east Texas to the Carolinas. The 800 series track feller bunchers — the 855E in particular — are considered some of the best tracked machines in the business.
